Hua An Medical seeks fresh capital as late-stage trials and AI licensing drive expansion

Hua An Medical is raising NT$300m to advance its drug pipeline while expanding Yuanhua Smart Medicine’s AI-led repurposing and licensing business.

华安醫學 on Friday outlined an expanded push into drug development and artificial intelligence, saying it is building its business around the proprietary ENERGI small-molecule platform while advancing four lead programmes and preparing to broaden its capital base through a share issue. The company also used the briefing to set out a dual-track strategy that pairs clinical drug development with a lighter-asset model centred on AI patent licensing through its subsidiary, Yuanhua Smart Medicine.

The most advanced candidate remains F703DFU, a gel treatment for diabetic foot ulcers. According to the company, the drug is running phase three recruitment in Taiwan and the United States at the same time, with a mid-stage meeting with the US Food and Drug Administration expected early next year and completion of full enrolment targeted for the first half of 2027. Hua An said earlier phase data showed strong complete healing rates and a favourable safety profile, and that the work has been published in the journal eClinicalMedicine. The company has also signed licensing and manufacturing agreements with TRPHARM in Turkey, Pharma Bavaria in Germany and Taiwan’s Tanabe Seiyaku, underlining its intention to commercialise the asset beyond Taiwan if the late-stage results hold up.

To support the clinical programme, the board has approved a capital increase of 100 million shares at an indicative price of NT$30 each, raising NT$300 million. Hua An said the money will be used to strengthen working capital and advance next-stage trials for F705PD and F703EB, while also improving the group’s negotiating position in overseas licensing talks. The company said F705PD, an oral treatment for Parkinson’s disease, has already completed phase one testing and showed promising safety, tolerability and a potential effect on cellular ATP, the energy molecule that helps power cell activity.

Hua An also gave a more detailed update on Yuanhua Smart Medicine, which it said is focused on AI-assisted drug repurposing, or finding new uses for existing medicines. The unit completed a NT$270 million capital increase and brought in support from Taiwan’s National Development Fund and venture capital investors, giving it a stronger funding base ahead of a planned entry to the emerging stock market next year. The subsidiary is expected to present its platform work at NVIDIA GTC in March 2026, after being selected as a BioPharma finalist for that event, and the company said its multi-modal AI system has been incorporated into NVIDIA’s BioNeMo framework and its Inception start-up programme. Hua An said the strategy is designed to enlarge the value of its asset portfolio while creating two separate engines of growth: clinical innovation on one side and technology licensing on the other.
