Malatya woman loses 21kg as supervised lifestyle plan improves diabetes and fatty liver

Rabia Karademir says guided diet and exercise at a Healthy Life Centre helped her lose 21kg in five months and bring her blood sugar into the desired range.

A 50-year-old woman in Malatya has lost 21 kilograms in five months and seen her blood sugar and liver health improve after following a supervised diet-and-exercise programme at a Healthy Life Centre, according to local reports from SonDakika and Haberturk. Rabia Karademir was initially diagnosed with early-stage diabetes, obesity and fatty liver disease after her family doctor referred her for further assessment at Malatya Training and Research Hospital, before she was sent on to the Zafer Healthy Life Centre for ongoing support.

Karademir said her starting weight was 95 kilograms and that she was worried about diabetes because several family members also had the condition. She added that she has only one kidney, which made her even more determined to change her habits. Under the centre’s supervision, she worked with a dietitian on her eating plan and with a physiotherapist on exercise, including regular treadmill sessions and walking. By her account, she now weighs 74 kilograms, her blood sugar has fallen from 110 to 96, and she is able to walk for 45 minutes at a time.

The centre’s responsible doctor, Yusuf Küçük, said the case illustrates the value of preventive care and noted that the facility brings together dietitians, physiotherapists, social workers, child development specialists and psychologists, as well as a stop-smoking clinic. Dietitian Fatma Zehra Doğan said the team hoped to avoid medication by first changing Karademir’s nutrition and activity patterns, and that the combination of close follow-up and steady exercise helped bring her blood tests back into the desired range after about three months. Doğan added that the patient’s body-mass index moved closer to normal and that preserving muscle mass was a key concern during the weight-loss process.

The case comes against a wider backdrop of growing demand for Healthy Life Centres in Turkey, which local reports say offer free support for people seeking to lose weight and improve their health without surgery or medication. Similar centres have also been highlighted in other cities, where patients with obesity have reported significant weight loss after months of guided diet and exercise. Karademir’s experience suggests that, for some patients, structured lifestyle support can improve more than the number on the scales: it can also reduce blood sugar, ease fatty liver disease and restore confidence in daily life.
