Increased loop frequency shifts insulin delivery dynamics, reducing bolus peaks

A self-experimentation study reveals that more frequent glucose monitoring alters insulin microbolusing patterns, leading to decreased basal delivery and a lower overall bolus peak, challenging assumptions about reactive insulin adjustments.

Running a loop more often does not simply make it more reactive; it changes where the insulin lands. In self-experimentation described by Diabettech, one-minute glucose updates were associated with far more automated microboluses and much less basal delivery, with the basal reduction offsetting a large share of the increase. The result was that the headline rise in bolus insulin shrank once basal was counted back in.
