Catherine Giudici Lowe finds a way to make Halloween feel normal after son’s diabetes diagnosis

The reality TV personality sought advice on managing sweets and trick-or-treating after her eight-year-old son Isaiah’s diagnosis, then praised him for how he handled the holiday.

Catherine Giudici Lowe turned to followers for guidance as her family marked its first Halloween since her son Isaiah was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, underscoring how abruptly the Lowes’ routine changed after a summer health scare. According to reports from TV Shows Ace and Us Weekly, Isaiah had been losing weight, drinking unusually large amounts of water and urinating frequently before a pediatrician ordered tests that led to hospital care and the diagnosis. The family later travelled to New York to meet with specialists as they adjusted to the condition and the daily demands of managing it.

In an Instagram post on Oct. 28, Giudici Lowe said she had hoped to offer advice to other parents but found herself needing help when it came to candy, trick-or-treating and the rest of Halloween. Isaiah, who is 8, loves sweets, and she said she wanted the holiday to feel normal rather than defined by diabetes. The response from other parents was immediate, with many encouraging the family to let him enjoy the night while making adjustments that fit his treatment plan, including managing treats with insulin or setting aside some candy for later.

After the holiday, Giudici Lowe said Isaiah “did exceptionally well” and added that she was proud of him. The update offered a more hopeful note after months in which the family has spoken openly about the shock of the diagnosis and the steep learning curve that followed. In July, she had thanked friends and supporters for their messages and gifts as Isaiah began to settle into a new routine, and the Halloween milestone suggested the family is continuing to find its footing one event at a time.
