For people living with diabetes, what they eat can shape how well treatment works, and in some cases it can change the effect of the medicine itself. The article published by Mangish says certain foods and drinks may interfere with diabetes drugs, raising the risk of low blood sugar or unwanted side effects. It cites grapefruit juice as one example, noting that it may intensify the action of medicines including repaglinide and saxagliptin.
Other reports underline a broader point: not all carbohydrates affect the body in the same way.
