CHRISTUS Health hosts its second annual Diabetes Walk and Talk to raise awareness, provide education, and support for people living with diabetes in East Texas, with proceeds aiding expanded access to diabetes care.
CHRISTUS Health is inviting East Texas residents to take part in its second annual Diabetes Walk and Talk on 26 September at The Boulders at Lake Tyler in Whitehouse. The event is designed to bring together exercise, diabetes education and peer support for people living with the condition, as well as their families.
Organisers said the walk was created by CHRISTUS diabetes educators, including some who live with Type 1 diabetes themselves, and is intended to help participants feel more informed and less isolated. Regan Hawkins, a diabetes educator with CHRISTUS Health, said education can improve day-to-day decision-making and that the event is meant to leave attendees feeling encouraged and better prepared to manage their health.
The fundraiser will support the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Foundation, with proceeds helping expand access to diabetes education for patients regardless of insurance status. Alongside the walk, attendees will be able to visit a vendor fair with information on diabetes technology, medicines, physical therapy and home health services. Registration is encouraged, although walk-up sign-ups will be accepted on the day, with the event scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at 16822 McElroy Road.
