A free HanDok and Korea Type 1 Diabetes Association session will offer practical diabetes-management advice and guidance on registration under South Korea’s newly introduced pancreas-disability classification.
HanDok is recruiting participants for a type 1 diabetes class linked to its “Dangdang Steps” campaign, marking World Diabetes Day on 14 November. The programme, organised with the Korea Type 1 Diabetes Association, is designed to give patients and families practical guidance on managing the condition, including blood sugar control, diet and exercise.
The company said the class will also explain the newly created pancreas-disability category, introduced through amendments to Korea’s Enforcement Decree of the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities this year. That addition is significant for people with type 1 diabetes because it may affect access to registration, support and related administrative procedures.
The session is set to include a specialist’s lecture, coaching on meals and physical activity, guidance on registration procedures and available support schemes, and a panel discussion. Kim Mi-young, who heads the association, is due to take part as a speaker and outline the criteria, process and preparations involved in registering for the new disability classification, while a patient with first-hand experience of registration will also join the discussion.
HanDok said the campaign has been running since 2009 as part of its social contribution work to promote better diabetes care and support patients’ daily lives. Since 2024, it has also offered tailored education programmes for people living with diabetes. Applications for this class are open on the company’s website until 28 October, and the event is free for people with type 1 diabetes and their families. The company said around 120 people will be accepted, with prizes including continuous glucose monitors and health supplements to be given out in a draw.
