Paraguay hosts regional congress on innovative cardiometabolic diabetes care

The fourth Paraguayan Congress of Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Diseases gathers over 1,000 health professionals in Asunción to explore the latest advances in obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular prevention, with regional and international participation.

The Paraguayan Society of Diabetology has unveiled the fourth Paraguayan Congress of Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Diseases, an event that will bring together more than 1,000 health professionals in Asunción from 9 to 11 September, with a pre-congress session on 8 September. According to the society, the meeting will take place at the Yacht and Golf Club Paraguayo and is being presented as the country’s leading scientific gathering on diabetes.

Under the slogan “Innovation, evidence and humanity in the new era”, the congress will focus on the changing face of cardiometabolic care, with obesity and diabetes at the centre of the discussion. The programme is set to cover the ADA 2026 guidelines, newer GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP treatments, obesity management and cardiovascular prevention, reflecting how diabetes care is increasingly linked to weight, heart and liver health. Organisers say the agenda also includes the first Latin American Forum on Metabolic Hepatic Steatosis and the first symposium on diabetes and obesity in children and adolescents.

The congress is expected to draw participants from across Paraguay and the wider region, including leaders of scientific societies, the International Diabetes Federation and the Latin American Diabetes Association. Speakers are also expected from Spain, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico, the United States and the Netherlands, underscoring the event’s regional reach and the growing interest in updated approaches to metabolic disease.

Alongside the academic programme, the congress will retain its scientific competition for residents, young professionals and students, with categories for original research, clinical cases and educational infographics and videos. The meeting will also address diabetic foot care, a major preventable complication and a leading cause of non-traumatic amputations, through a practical workshop aimed at earlier detection and prevention. In a separate initiative tied to the event, Laboratorios Indufar will stage the “Movete Por Vos” run-walk on 10 September as part of a public push to encourage physical activity, which remains a cornerstone of type 2 diabetes prevention and treatment.
